International House
Teaching

As language itself is an essential source of understanding between different nationalities, the teachers are 'ambassadors' as well as 'pedagogues'    John Haycraft

International House has always been a pioneering force in the development of practical training courses for language teachers and its teaching teams have a unique reputation for being the most able, creative and professional.

The teaching and training philosophy is based on a dynamic communicative approach with emphasis on task-based and student-centred activities.

The Teacher Training programmes at International House, for both native and non-native teachers of English as well as of other languages, lead to recognised certificates. Most of the courses on offer are short and intensive and aim to teach, explore and improve the underlying principles and practical applications of current ELT methodologies and approaches.

In recent years, long-term distance learning courses as well as educational management programmes have been introduced to help teachers with their professional development.

In line with John Haycraft's philosophy, the International House organisation is not solely devoted to the teaching of English (and other languages), but also aims to generate the kind of international goodwill which comes from many nationalities trying to understand one another in many different countries and many different situations.
